When we want to write our essay, we always give so much attention to the beginning and the end of the essay. What we want to establish in our essay is just to help the readers follow our flow of thoughts in the essay. Having a good introduction and conclusion in the essay is not enough to establish a persuasive essay. There are far more aspects of the composition or essay writing that you need to look at, such as abstract considerations that are also important. These abstract aspects of essay writing are the point of view, persona and tone.

The point of view of an essay is highly noticeable by the way the writer presents the subject. There are two approaches that are possible when writing an essay, there is the personal point of view and the impersonal point of view. The personal point of view uses the personal pronouns such as I, me, my, or myself in the essay. On the other hand, the impersonal point of view requires you to avoid writing your thoughts with an explicit reference to yourself. The difference in these points of view is that the personal point of view often reflects subjectivity while the impersonal point of view indicates objectivity.

On some occasion, one point of view suffices for the whole essay. On the other hand, most of our essays require both points of view to create variety in the presentation of ideas. Some ideas intimately involve the writer while other concepts and statements need to be presented in an objective manner. You must not be afraid to use “I” when it is necessary to emphasise your reasons based on the topic. Scientific essays, by default, use the objective view to set a measure of professional tone.

Many essays can be presented in either point of view although you have to consider the degree that you want to present your essay. If you want a formal essay, use the impersonal point of view. When you want to use any of the points of view, then you must be consistent in using it. For example, if you open a paragraph using a personal point of view, maintain this perspective until the end. You can use an impersonal point of view in another paragraph. Thus, when there are two points of view in one paragraph, it is better to split the paragraph into two, one for the personal statements and the other for the impersonal. In this way, your essay is more organised and uncluttered.
